Updated: Aug 7, 2023

As reported by NDTV, Fernando Perez Algaba, a cryptocurrency influencer from Argentina who had been missing for over a week, was found deceased on Wednesday, July 26th. Police discovered Mr. Algaba's body chopped up inside a suitcase by a stream in the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires, according to the New York Post.

The tragic fate was made known when a group of children found a red suitcase filled with body parts while playing by the stream on Sunday, the outlet further said. The entrepreneur was first suspected to be missing on July 19th after not returning the keys to an apartment he was renting. After he failed to show up and didn’t answer his phone, a missing complaint was filed by the property owner, according to the outlet.

Citing local media, the Post said that the children's parents informed the police who inspected the package and found Mr Algaba's legs and forearms. His other arm was found in the stream. On Wednesday, the police located the missing head and torso, which was discovered floating downstream in a rucksack.

Police said the body parts were cleanly amputated, indicating the work of an expert, as per the outlet.

The police sent the body for autopsy and the report revealed that Mr. Algaba was shot to death prior to being dismembered.

They were able to identify Mr Algaba by his fingerprints and the distinctive tattoos on the body parts.

As per a Marca report, the self-made billionaire was based in Barcelona, after spending time in Miami. He had been staying in Argentina for a week before his alleged murder.

Mr Algaba amassed his riches by renting luxury vehicles and trading cryptocurrency and shared his lavish lifestyle with nearly one million followers on Instagram.

According to his brother, Rodolfo Perez Algaba, who traveled to Buenos Aires to help locate him, claimed Fernando wasn't a scammer, but he was going through severe economic problems due to the demise of cryptocurrency and owed a lot of money to Argentina's tax agency.

La Nacion newspaper later reported that Fernando had left a note on his phone explaining he had lost a lot of money in a crypto investment and alluded that he had taken a loan from a local gang notorious in Argentina and that if anything happened to him, they had been warned.

"If they had shot him, I can think it would have been a settling of scores, but what doesn't close me is that they cut him as they cut him," said the deceased's brother, Rodolfo Pérez Algaba, according to local outlet A24.

The police have arrested one person in connection with Mr Algaba's death and are investigating why he was killed. They, however, suspect that he was killed over his numerous debts.
