On July 12, 2023, Sean "Diddy" Combs launched an online marketplace created to showcase some of the best Black-owned brands in the world of fashion, beauty, and lifestyle. It's called Empower Global.
According to the company's About Us page, the headquarters is located in Atlanta, GA.
It seems that the mission of the e-commerce site is to align those looking to support Black-owned businesses with top quality creators. Some of the brands may be familiar to shoppers who've seen the products on store shelves but were unaware that the products were in fact,
produced by a Black-owned business.
Diddy shared the following statement on Instagram:
"For a long time, I thought about how to create radical change. Over the years I’ve realized radical change starts with us. I’m extremely passionate about creating a platform that will show the power of unity. Through my life’s work and the different stages of success, I’ve realized for our people to break through and advance we have to do things together. Empower Global represents a solution to all of the things that have held our communities back. Let’s unite, brand by brand, company by company, person by person, customer by customer, and dollar by dollar.

Diddy's launch of the marketplace and his message about the importance of circulating the Black dollar amongst the community seems to echo the same message that several celebrities and entrepreneurs are voicing at this time. It's clear that there is a desire to shift spending power results by having it bear fruit for a community in need of continued, loyal support. Partnerships seem to be sprouting up more often as Black Americans work to get on the same page economically and create a space that's scalable and inclusive.
